Social media shifts

Here’s an early example of social media interaction at a conference I spoke at back in 2005. At the time, wikis were the budding social medium.
Today most people at such a conference would probably tweet the individual comments and there would be the threading problem of trying to figure it out. But there would probably be more people adding their views than this one intrepid adventurer.

Wikis were never as buzzed about as Twitter. That doesn’t mean that three years from now we’ll be talking about the next wunder tool. Twitter has its shortcomings, not least of which is it has fewer regular users than the average big city newspaper. But it might be immediate enough and flexible enough that it will become longer-lasting. It’s clearly still in its formative stages.
